Machinimators have been using games such as The Sims 2 as a storytelling tool for many years with varying degrees of success; games were not designed for movie making. Existing 3D animation tools are nearly all expensive and hard to learn, and creating 3D animation is almost always a slow, laborious and painstaking process. Machinima allows people with no knowledge of 3D modelling or frame-by-frame animation to make films on standard home computers, by allowing them to take advantage of videogame technology.
Moviestorm is not a game or an animation tool, it's a disruptive technology and a new breed of movie making tool.
What is Moviestorm?
Moviestorm consists of a suite of easy-to-use movie-making tools which underpins a Web 2.0 social media service targeting both movie creators and viewers with support from major media and consumer brand owners.
- The Moviestorm base engine gives content creators the ability to make 3D animated movies quickly and easily, using machinima technology. The base engine is available as a free download from the Moviestorm Web site, bundled with some free content (characters, props, sets, animations, etc).
- Movie-makers will be able to expand their movie-making capabilities by purchasing additional content packs which we produce. We are developing a marketplace to allow third party content creators to produce content packs and sell them through us, and we are working with leading brand and IP owners to produce branded content packs and engage in an innovative form of product placement within user-generated video content.
- Moviestorm includes a high-quality video hosting service which can deliver user-generated videos to the Web and in due course, mobile, and an online community where movie-makers can talk about their movies, find collaborators, and organise online events.
Moviestorm is a fully integrated complete solution that takes the user all the way from initial concept to finished, distributed movies. Its ease of use makes it accessible for first time movie-makers, while its advanced features and compatibility with existing tools make it suitable for pro-am users. It allows individuals and groups to create many different types of movies; from comedies, music videos, video blogs, soaps, drama and documentaries, through to high-quality complex movies that traditionally have only been affordable to fully funded film-makers.
Our goal is to make Moviestorm the ubiquitous platform of choice for animated movie production.
